The power of a ketogenic protocol.

Over the lockdown, I developed type 2 diabetes. My doctors were concerned because my blood sugar average (A1C test) was 9.9, and on most days my reading was anywhere from 12 – 26.

Yes, that is very very high. One night I was hospitalized for my blood sugar being over 36.5.

Metformin was doing absolutely nothing and the situation was dire. I have two young children, so if I wanted to see them grown older – something drastic needed to happen.

Now, before COVID, during my bodybuilding days (You’ll note earlier in this blog), I was on the ketogenic protocol for performance and asthetic reasons. I’m not new to the lifestyle. And yes its hard at the start, but then it gets really easy, really fast. I liken it to climbing a very steep sand dune. You will want to give up just before you reach where you need to be. And many times you will give up.

But once you reach the top, in this case a state of ketosis – your body burning ketone bodies as opposed to glycogen, it immediately gets super easy going down the other side. And yes, it IS sustainable.

Last week my blood sugar read 22.5, 19.6 the following morning (fasted). And so I immediately took the plung and just ate what Im going to attach at the bottom of this post.

I am now day 5 since I made the change to what I eat. And my trusty ketone measuring sticks (available at most pharmacies or online for under R200), showed purple. Ketosis! I rushed to the room, took my blood sugar (much to the amuzement of my kids) and I’ll let the proof be in the data.

Thats FIVE days to reverse a chronic condition. And I feel amazing. Im going to make myself some eggs, bacon and put butter in my coffee. Cause thats how we roll from now on….

Roughtly what I’ve been eating (I add chopped spinach or brocolli to most of the meals, but I dont count that into the calories). This is just how to get INTO ketosis. Now I can start getting as fancy as I like.
And its CHEAP. The biggest falacy is that ketogenic diets are expensive. Its the opposite – I know because I shop for my kids and parents too and they eat regular carb based food – one shop lasts them 3 days, lasts me 5 – 7 days with the same expendature.
